Vice President of Human Resources
The Vice President of Human Resources is responsible for providing leadership in developing and executing human resources operations strategy in support of the overall business plan and strategic direction of the organization, specifically in support of attracting, retaining and development programs for their designated area of responsibility. This role will support a large, multi-state business, manage a diverse team and be responsible for HR services for thousands of employees in the US and Canada.
Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Human Resources, this role partners with other HR Operational VP’s and the HR Leadership team to deliver a cohesive company-wide HR operation that is responsible for HR management, implementation of well-conceived and designed programs, and synchronization of HR processes, systems, policies and procedures pertaining to all HR activities.

The VP must have proven experience as a strategic thinker with capability to lead change both at the operational and strategic levels. Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide leadership of the HR operations function for a designated business area(s). Manages a team of HR professionals ensuring effective planning, direction, and administration of human resources strategies and programs to support the achievement of business unit goals. Oversees the day-to-day HR operations team for the assigned area of responsibility.
- Collaborate with business leadership to implement a proactive People Strategy plan to support the short and longer-term people strategy goals of the company and individual business areas.
- Identify, track and report key metrics and performance indicators on People Strategy related areas to ensure progress and growth against goals and plan.
- Foster and maintain a strong relationship with key business leaders across the organization by providing thought leadership to address organizational issues and opportunities. Business acumen essential to create and maintain these relationships.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on employment-related policy and provide coaching, counseling, and advice to guide leaders and HR team members with regards to HR programs, practices, policies, legislation, investigations and regulatory requirements including interpretation of policy, identification of risk, impact to the business and recommended solutions
- Monitor trends related to employee relations-related actions, decisions and create action plans to address mitigation of risk or towards improvement of the employee value proposition.
- Partner with field leaders and HR team members to ensure new business startups and acquisitions people related plans are executed on time and within budget
- Collaborate with cross-functional HR team members in Compensation, Talent, Benefits, HRIS, Legal, to execute HR Strategic goals and annual projects.
- Serve as an active member of the HR leadership team focused on shaping the direction of HR and supporting the strategic goals and initiatives of the company.
- Identify and develop key senior level talent for designated business unit, ensuring a talent and succession pipeline is in place that supports the rapid growth of our company.
- Drive innovation and continuous improvement with focus on leading high-impact projects and activities focused on employee engagement and retention, as well as, fostering an inclusive and diverse workplace.
- Collaborate with business unit leadership to support the design of organizational structures, roles & responsibilities, and HR processes that are scalable as the business grows.
- Identify areas of risk and partners with other HR, Legal and business leaders to plan to reduce such by strengthening policies and communications. Ensures appropriate collaboration with legal and other business partners for those issues representing significant risk to the organization.
- Develops appropriate policies and programs for effective management of the people resources of the corporation.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources and ten plus (12+) years of HR management in leadership role or equivalent combination of education and experience. A senior level degree or SPHR highly preferred.
- Experience working in Distribution, Warehousing, Logistics or Manufacturing is preferred.
- Comprehensive and senior level understanding of all aspects of HR functions, with depth of experience in field based operations.
- 10+ years of experience in leading and developing field based and remote HR team members of various levels (HRBP to Director Levels) in a growing and fast-paced organization.
- Skilled at partnering with business leaders at all levels and balancing the role as a liaison between human resources and key stakeholders
- Highly developed and proven project management skills with experience streamlining HR processes.
- Strong business acumen with an ability to learn, understand and discuss significant business issues including financial drivers
- Demonstrated ability to remove and overcome barriers to promote collaboration between and within HR and the business
- Capability to be both strategic and tactical with the proven expertise to think, create and execute plans strategically beyond just the tactical execution.
- Experienced in evaluating and implementing tools, process, technology, and infrastructure required to attract, retain, develop and grow the organization.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex legal, regulatory, diversity and human resources related documents.
- Skilled in researching information and preparing/analyzing large complex data sets to develop valid conclusions, recommendations, and plans of action.
- Ability to effectively plan, set priorities, and manage several complex projects simultaneously while working under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Advanced coaching/consulting, conflict resolution and facilitation skills.
- Superior written and verbal communication skills that can effectively address all levels within the organization. Must be a skilled presenter capable of creating business case information and influencing change across the organization.
- Ability to represent the company effectively in a variety of settings with a demonstrated understanding and appreciation for diverse cultures.
- Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
- 25% travel or more required.
- This position will require 50-60% travel.
